Mark D. Whalen

Mark D. Whalen serves as the Chief Financial Officer of the R. C. Hobbs Company and directs the lending and banking relationships of the company and also provides project management supervision and sales support for major properties.  Mark is a seasoned real estate professional with 25 years of banking experience primarily in land and residential subdivision development.  

Mr. Whalen began his career at First Interstate Bank of California in 1979 where until 1996 he was Senior Vice President and Manager of the Orange County Developer banking group which originated residential land and construction loans to residential developers and homebuilders in Orange County.

   He has also served as the Chief Credit Officer for two years at PriVest Bank where he was responsible for all aspects of the credit administration function including underwriting, credit review, compliance, monitoring, and documentation, as well as being Chairman of loan committee. 

Prior to joining PriVest Bank, from 1997 to 2001, Mark served as the Chief Credit Officer of Finova Realty Capital, a division of Finova Capital Corporation.  Mark was responsible for the formation of the Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities (CMBS) underwriting practices and procedures and directly reviewed and approved for funding loans in excess of $1 billion annually.  These loans were subsequently sold in the secondary CMBS marketplace. Underwriting this portfolio included all product types including multi-family, mobile home parks, industrial, retail, office, congregate care, assisted living, self-storage and Hotel properties on a national basis. 

Mark holds a finance degree from California State University at Fullerton.  He is a member of the Building Industry Association and the Home Builders Counsel.  He is also a member of Lambda Alpha, a land use society in Orange County.  Mr. Whalen’s volunteer activities have included serving as a board member for the Mardan School in Irvine and as a board member of the Irvine Campus Housing Authority, which is a non-profit entity that produces and manages the employer housing base on the UCI campus.
